About Howpj
Howpj is a Vietnam travel guide made by people who live in Vietnam. We are building it around our own photos and video of the places we write about, the food we actually eat, and the things glossy brochures leave out — like typhoon season on the central coast or how cold Sa Pa gets in January.
Destinations are organised the way travellers know them — "Mui Ne", "Quy Nhon", "Vung Tau" — rather than by province. Vietnam merged its 63 provinces into 34 in July 2025, so where a place now belongs to a different province, we show the new province name on its page.
How the monthly rating works
For each destination we average ten full years of daily weather from Open-Meteo's historical archive (ERA5 reanalysis). Each month gets a 0–100 score for general sightseeing comfort:
- Temperature: average daily highs between 24°C and 30°C score full marks; every degree cooler or hotter costs 10 points.
- Rain: up to 60 mm a month scores full marks, falling steadily to zero at 500 mm.
- The final score leans on whichever of the two is worse, so a warm month with floods can't come out as "good".
- GreatComfortable temperatures and little rain
- GoodMostly pleasant; some heat, chill or showers
- FairHot, cool or rainy enough to plan around
- Wet / extremeHeavy rain or uncomfortable heat or cold
It is a simple, general-purpose guide. Beach lovers might happily take more heat; trekkers might prefer cooler months. Model data can also overstate light drizzle, so treat "wet days" as indicative. Always check a forecast before you go.
